We asked a vet about this and these are the answers he gave us:
They could travel on your clothes,
If you have previously had fleas they can hibernate for 2 years without needing to feed on the cat,
They could have them from a pet shop,
Someone visiting your house could bring them in on shoes,clothes or briefcases.
Yes and the flea larvae (young) will live in the house too
