since root hairs are very thin extensions of roots, you will not probably see itunder a lens because its very thin. Hand lens only has limitations of size that it can magnify (roughly 0.1 mm), root hairs are much thinner than this limit (roughly 0.085 mm) which made it susceptible to be unseen under the hand lens though you can see clusters of root hairs through your naked eye
