  1. By being able to use a smaller, lower horsepower, more fuel efficient internal combustion engine than would normally be needed for a vehicle of that size and weight.
  2. By being able to run on electric power only for limited periods of time.
  3. By being able to stop the internal combustion engine when the vehicle is not moving, thus eliminating fuel wasted while idling.
Each of these needs additional explanation:
  1. A vehicle needs a certain amount of horsepower (depending on its size, weight, drag, speed, etc.) to cruise at a constant speed and more horsepower to accelerate. For an ordinary vehicle the internal combustion engine must be designed to be able to provide the maximum horsepower needed for the highest rate of acceleration. But for a hybrid the internal combustion engine only needs to be designed to be able to provide the maximum horsepower needed to cruise at a constant speed at the highest speed the car is intended to be driven at, with the electric motor providing the additional horsepower for acceleration. Because a smaller, lower horsepower internal combustion engine can be designed to always be more fuel efficient across the range of horsepower demanded of it than a larger, higher horsepower internal combustion engine, the hybrid saves fuel this way.
  2. When the vehicle is cruising at a low enough speed that the electric motor is able to provide all the horsepower needed to keep the speed constant then the internal combustion engine can be stopped, entirely eliminating use of fuel until such time that it is necessary to restart the internal combustion engine (either to recharge the battery or because of a change in driving conditions e.g. more horsepower needed to climb a hill). Also when going downhill or during breaking the hybrid vehicle can recover some of the energy that would just be wasted as heat in an ordinary vehicle, by turning their electric motor into an electric generator and using it to charge the hybrid battery so that this energy can be used later by the electric motor (this is called: regenerative breaking).
  3. When the vehicle is not moving, running the internal combustion engine just wastes fuel (except to keep it warm in very cold weather, which hybrids will do if they detect the engine is too cold for proper operation), so the ability of a hybrid to stop the engine and restart it later when the car needs to move again saves fuel that an ordinary vehicle wastes.

Do hybrid cars save fuel?

If driven correctly. If not then no.

How efficient is hybrid car fuel?

Hybrid cars get better gas mileage than regular cars. Also, the great thing about the hybrid car is that you do not necessarily need to use fuel to drive a hybrid car, which will help you save money on gas.

How are hybrid cars in comparison to other cars?

The hybrid is going to be more expensive at first. In the long run, however, you will save money on fuel and power when you buy a hybrid. Hybrids will eventually save you money, but not up front costs.

Is there really a cost advantage in buying a hybrid car?

You can certainly save in the cost of gasoline with a hybrid. You have to weigh potential fuel savings against the higher initial cost of the hybrid.

Do we have any hybrid automobiles from Honda that will help save fuel and protect our environment?

Honda has a pretty good selection of hybrid automobiles and fuel saving automobiles. Their Civic and Insight models are fuel efficient cars. They are available in Hybrids as well.

How much fuel can a hybrid car save?

The amount of fuel saved depends on how many miles are driven and what car they are compared to. Hybrid cars are roughly twice as fuel efficient as non-hybrid cars. If you are driving a less fuel efficient car they can be three times as efficient, but some comparable non-hybrid cars get as much as 75% the mileage of hybrids, so the range is considerable. For estimation purposes, take the miles driven, assume 25 miles per gallon for a normal car, and then assume the hybrid will use about half that much fuel (i.e will save about half the fuel a normal car uses).

Increasing Fuel Efficiency in Hybrid Crossovers?

When purchasing a Hybrid Crossover you can save money and increase fuel efficiency by putting on low-resistance tires. You may need to negotiate getting low-resistant tires put on when you purchase your hybrid crossover. Otherwise switch them out after purchase. It will be worth it in the long run in the money you save on greater fuel efficiency. Decreasing resistance by 20 percent may result in a five percent increase in fuel efficiency.

Do hybrid cars really save you on gas?

Hybrid cars do tend to get better fuel economy, although it is important to consider how you will use the car. Climate control systems such as the heater and air conditioner will cause the hybrid to run the gasoline motor. This will result in poorer fuel economy than expected.

Are Isuzu commercial trucks fuel efficient?

Isuzu is a fuel efficient truck, depending upon the model you buy. Today, you can probably find a hybrid model, which will really save on the cost of fuel.

Why are hybrid cars so popular?

They save fuel over their counterparts by a few percent and have massive image appeal for some groups.

What are the advantages of hybrid car?

Hybrid vehicles are advantageous for numerous reasons. They save you a lot of money on fuel, and they are far less of a threat to the environment then normal vehicles, as they do not produce as much harmful exhaust.

What high gas mileage cars are worth buying?

For fuel economy use hybrid cars. They save on gas because they are partly run by internal battery.Toyota prius,Honda civic hybrid,Lexus 200h,Nissan altima hybrid are some of the best environmental cars.Toyota prius is the best car according to mileage. It runs 50mpg and races first among environmental safe cars or go for electric cars if you want to save on fuel
