A mouse (related to computer) is an input device. Input devices are hardware which give instructions to the computer.

When considering a computer mouse, it allows the user to move the pointer on the screen to do his / her work. It creates a GUI (Graphical User Interface) for the user to interact and work with.

When the mouse is moved, the movement is detected and converted to signals by the circuits inside the mouse. These signals are sent to the system box which decodes the signals and in turn moves the pointer which appears on the screen (Monitor / VDU).
