To be honest, you don't. I mean, before you realize you are trans, you ignore it, try to make life work, maybe find excuses as to why your life isn't working. Then you may come to partial knowledge and mistake yourself for gay/les/bi or transgender. But you then realize the conflict is not with your sexual orientation, and the transgender route doesn't do enough for you. You might find that the transgender path is too weak for your needs or doesn't scratch the itch you have for completion.

Then once you discover you have transsexualism, not sexual preference issues or garden variety "gender variance," and that you want conformity, not variance, then you seek out professionals to try to get your medical and surgical needs met. However, you generally find obstacles and condescending treatment from the very ones who claim to want to "help" you. Very often, they are more concerned with pusing some LGBT agenda that doesn't benefit you and only gives you lip service, than they are of giving you the hormones and surgery to cure your transsexualism so you can function the SAME as someone who was born with the physical sex that matches the gender identity you have. You may find that more transsexual people are committing suicide *because of* the transgender community and being forcibly lumped with dissimilar people against your will and treated as transgender rather than as a typical woman (or man if you are FtM).

If you are lucky enough to cut through the nonsense and bureaucracy, and you avoid getting pulled into the dysfunctionality and TG or LGBT politics, then you can get your surgery, take your hormones, correct most of your paperwork, and keep all the trans stuff that you never asked for to yourself. You might want to work within it and try to better it, but you may find that it only serves to destroy your reputation, cause burn-out, and result in nothing good that lasts. The TG movement runs counter to what people who were actually born with transsexualism (and didn't choose to distort their well-adjusted life and become transgender, which is essentially pseudo-transsexualism).

So if you manage to get your transition without anyone knowing or you stay pre-op and hide that and never are with anyone, then you might get into a frame of mind where you ignore everything and have no conflict.

Also, if you are a traditional TS who believes in only two genders, opposes homosexuality, opposes all recreational transgenderism that doesn't result in surgery with full assimilation, society will make it hard for you. Certain folks on the Left deliberately set it up that way, to estrange you from your best allies in the Mainstream/Cisgender Community, and forcibly lump you with those you may disagree with or find repulsive, all while deliberately outing you and destroying your reputation to cause your best allies to think they hate you. If the 90% just realized you had a birth defect and not a mental illness, choice, perversion, or type of homosexuality, and could see you are not LGBT or part of the TG community, they'd accept you, and based on your merits as an individual, not with minority group, gang, or group of bullies you belong to.
