They mistake shiny human skin on arms and legs for fish, and it's in the sharks nature to "nibble" on something to see if the object is edible. The "nibble" however can vary depending on the size of the shark and its jaws. Also, when sharks smell blood, it causes them to frenzy which causes the sharks to become more aggressive and lose their sense of discrimination towards humans as food.

∙ 14y agoIf they choose to attack, they can kill you (Via drowning, crushed skull, bloodloss, etc), they can seriously injure you, or they can just give you a scrape on the arm, although this is unlikely if they are hunting and have managed to get that close.
They can just swim past you too, if your not making yourself look like a turtle or prey.
