Sore throat can be simply explained as having a infection in your throat. The reason why it's sore because our body's trying to fight off the bacteria with our immune system. Of course, by fighting these bacteria in our body manifestations can occur such as Fever and pain on swallowing (a feeling like there's a lump in your throat).

Sore throats can easily be managed by taking antibiotics and increasing your water intake everyday. AND, You are NOT allowed to eat anything SWEET for awhile like candies, cakes, ice cream, and foods that basically contain a high sugar content. Like us humans, we get our energy from sugar and the same can also be said to bacterias, they also eat sugar; They thrive in it. They multiply because of it.

Now the problem becomes bigger if the sore throat wasn't treated immediately. It can really lead to problems. And the one that gets involved frequently is the heart.

Your Sore Throat has bacteria right? And our immune system tries to fight it off but what happens if you don't comply with the restrictions and antibiotics? Our immune system can only take so much and they also need our help, our compliance in order for our bodies to be able to fight the infection effectively. When we fail to fight of the infection in our throats, the bacteria can proliferate more and may eventually circulate in our blood and the nearest major organ that can be affected first is our heart.

Blood can be another complication of the sore throat when there's already a lot of bacteria circulating in the blood and our immune system can no longer fight off the infection. This is termed as Septicemia. This is a really fatal condition that has to be treated immediately.

Rheumatic fever does not affect throat. It does affect heart and joint. This happens probably because the antibodies formed against the beta haemolytic streptococci also attack the heart valves and the joints. Probably they have similarity with the antigen of bacteria.
