A system of pulleys along a long carbon nanotube structure that reachs into space. There is a common misconception that there is not gravity in space, however this is not the case. Classified as microgravity it is still possible for basically anything that functions normally on earth to function normally in the microgravity of space.
Answer 1It wouldn't, because the Moon isn't in geostationary orbit. The "cable" would get all wrapped around the equator.Answer 2For an actual description of a space elevator (which is a scientifically viable concept) please see the Related Links below. The Lunar Elevator would go from the surface of the moon to a specific point in space where the gravity and centrifugal forces are equal. There would be an Earth elevator that does similarly and then a much easier trip would be had in the vacuum of space between the two "drop-off" points. Most fuel used currently to get from Earth to the moon is to break out of Earth's atmosphere and to slow the descent to the moon (and vice versa)
10 mph or 16 km/h
I don't know but Phineas and Ferb can do it! (they have an episode where they do that!)
In space, there is no interference by Earth's atmosphere.
Yes, mirrors do work in outer space! That is because light also travels in space just like on Earth.
Space elevator refers to a type of space transportation system which is proposed by many scientists and inventors. Its main component is a ribbon-like cable also called "tether" which is anchored to the surface and extending into the space.
He rode in the Great Glass Elevator to get into space.
nothing
no they are not
press the space bar and you will enter the elevator. Once you get in you have to eliminate others inside, then you get out.

A disadvantage of an elevator is the inconvenience when it does not work. People get dependent on an elevator and find it very hard to take the stairs during a breakdown even if they are physically capable of using stairs.
It takes 43 seconds

Passenger elevators are big pulleys powered by a motor with 6-8 cables or more that pull the elevator cab or the counter weight letting the elevator go up or down.
As of now (2008) technology it is not practical to make materials that are sufficiently strong and light to build an Earth based space elevator. This is because the weight of conventional materials needed to construct such a structure would be far too great.
