What type of ignition system fires the spark plug every 360 degrees of crankshaft rotation?

A distributor less system with waste spark.

What type of spark plug is used on waste spark ignition?

On a waste spark system you should use double platinum plugs. Because the cylinders fire on the compression stroke on the positive side and the exhaust stroke on the negative side, copper plugs would burn out very fast. As an example, double platinum plugs are advertised as 100,000 plugs, but I wouldn't go past 50,000 miles due to the possibility of the plug getting stuck in the engine. The copper plug on the same engine would only go about 15,000 miles. Based on the locations of the plug applications on various vehicles, I would not want to change plugs every 15,000 miles.

What are the advantages of waste spark?

simplicity of ignition unit, less component, mean cheaper to manufature

How many spark plugs are there on a 1991 ford ranger xlt 2.3 liter 4 cylinder engine?

The 1992 model had 8 for sure: 4 for power and 4 for "waste spark." The 1991 model is probably the same and uses the EEC-IV system with OBD-1.

Does bad spark plugs give you rough idle?

Bad spark plugs can indeed cause an engine to idle rough. If any of the spark plugs are misfiring or are not producing enough of a spark to ignite the fuel, then not only will the engine idle roughly, it will alwso waste gas. If may seem as though it is running fine when you are driving however, you still may be wasting gas and your pickup may not be as fast as it should.

Does a waste spark system have plug wires?

Yes, from the coil to the companion cylinders.

What would cause a 1995 Old Aurora to seem to skip when accelerating to go up a hill and to surge or buck forward when stopped at a light?

Common possibilities: Spark Plugs & Plug Wires. If plugs/wires have more than 80,000 miles on them, consider replacing them.Warning!... use only GM supplied AC-Delco spark plugs. The 32-Valve Northstar engine is very particular about the special dual-tip, dual platinum spark plugs they were designed with.Yes, they're expensive (about $6 each from local autoparts stores), but they last a long time which offsets the price. I replaced mine at 100k, and they were just beginning to act up.Any others will MOST LIKELY result in misfires (like you're experiencing now), reduced gas mileage, and short life.Plug wires can be upgraded with high-performance 8mm helical core wires, but stick with top-grade Bosch or Borg-Warner Select wires. Factory wires are always a safe-bet, but 'can' begin to degrade after 50k miles in high-heat conditions.Side note: As with many late model cars, these cars use half as many ignition coils as there are spark plugs... in a system called Waste Spark ignition, where a single coil fires 2 (opposing) spark plugs. If one spark plug wire is bad, you actually lose full spark power on TWO spark plugs, as they are connected in series. (This is why an engine can begin to run so poorly when just one spark plug wire goes bad, especially on 6-cylinder engines!)This also means that half of your spark plugs are sparking from center-to-ground (normal), and the other half are sparking from ground-to-center (abnormal). This requires that the "Platinum" spark plugs have platinum on both the ground electrodes, as well as the center electrode so that they last as long in either position.Bosch platinum spark plugs are notorious for not working well in waste-spark ignitions, as they (at least, in the past) have not had platinum on their ground electrodes. Half of your plugs would be fine, half would go bad... quickly.AnswerCould also be, and likely, the plenuem backfire relieve door seal leaking. See the response in regards to reasons other then sparg plugs and wires for missing. ANOTHER POSSIBILITY: Idle Speed Sensor/Selenoid. Does this happen when the AC is on?? I love your car, it might have been the most beautifull American car of the last 25 years. Its a shame about Olds demise.....I had the same symptoms. I changed the plugs & wires nothing different. It ended up having a bad ignition coil.

Which spark plug: denso pk20tr11 or ngk bkr6ekpb11 ngk is almost twice the price of denso; both are listed in the manual so is it worth the difference?

Lifted from a post on ToyotaNation.Does yours use the OEM twin ground platinum electrode spark plugs? They are specifically used for the later model Gen 4s (Camry) with twin coil packs and distributorless. These use a waste spark ignition, therefore the plugs fire twice during a 4 stroke cycle. If you use a single ground electrode, it will severely shorten the life of the plug. e.g. 6,000rpm on your Camry engine will be like running 12,000rpm on another car, since the plug fires twice as often. You can also try double platinum plugs, i.e. plugs with a platinum chip also on the ground electrode. What happens in waste spark ignition is that 1 coil pack fires 2 spark plugs simultaneously, e.g. cylinder 1 and cylinder 4. So while one spark plug is firing normally, spark jumps from center electrode to ground electrode, the other spark plug is firing in reverse, i.e. from ground electrode to center electrode, therefore there is high wear on the ground electrode, this is where the platinum chip on the ground electrode gives longevity. Plugs like Denso Iridium SK20R11 and VK20 also have a platinum chip on the ground electrode. NGK Iridium IX and Denso IK20 don't. BOSCH R3 Platinum2 18-3770-8 spark plug is an alternative choice. Had replaced with these spark plugs for 2 years now, so far so good. By the way, the original stock Denso plugs were still very good after 100,000 miles (160,000kms). IMHO that they could go at least 200,000 miles before needing replacement.

How do you set Ignition timing on ford 3.8 litre?

many of these engines (if not all) use a waste-spark type ignition system which is controlled entirely by the computer, unlike most earlier cars with adjustable distributors. the computer can be replaced or reprogrammed in order to change the ignition timing, but this is not adviseable unless you are a qualified and experienced technitian in this area, if you want to change the timing to pass a smog test, try another avenue.

Where are the sparkplugs located on the 1998 Chevy Malibu?

Depending on the model some 1998 models have glow plugs like a diesel engine you may want to look into that before you waste time and money on spark plugs. On the 4 cy. engine, the spark plugs are accessible from the top of your engine. There is a face plate on the top of the engine held on with four screws, pull this plate off and you'll see the plugs. This confused me for a while too, as I was looking on the front and rear sides of the engine.

Where is the ignition control module on 1994 Ford Van E250 6 cylinder?

The only way I can explain it is to follow the wiring from your coil pack (where the spark plugs are) and the wires plug into the ignition module. Also go go www.wrenchead.ca and it has a manual that explains all. if you don't know the answer to a question please keep your moth shut ,please don't waste my time

What is a code P1351 on a 1996 Chevy s10 4.3L V6?

Nobody can figure it out, not even the GM mechanics. I have just about replaced everything.....nothing works to date. 1 Fuel pump, 2 Ignition control Modules, 1Cam shaft sensor, 1Fuel relay switch, 1distributor Spark plugs, Spark Plug wires.... Did I forget something...prob.. I say cut your loses, junk the pos & move on or you will waste thousands on a problem nobody can find. Good Luck!!
