The majority of Christians believe this is the time of Jesus' birth and celebrate it by calling it the Advent season.
It is about the countdown for the birth of christ (advent calenders help with the countdown). It takes 4 sundays (24 days) and Christmas is the result f the end of Christmas. Also:It recalls the 4000 years the Jewish people awaited the Messiah.

Advent means literal "the comming to." Believers that celebrate advent are looking forward to Easter, the coming of the Lord. Some celebrate it for 40 days not counting Sundays and some only do a 7 day advent. The 40 comes from a time of testing. Forty days in the wilderness for Jesus, 40 years in the wilderness for the people of Israe, etc. If you follow a strict liturgical year on Ash Wednesday you set aside a negative behavior that helps you to prepare yourself for the Easter Time. I know of some people that don't eat red meat during this time, some young people that don't play video games, some stop alcohol, etc. Whatever you do during this time it is just a time of remembering.
It helps us to learn what Advent is Really about. u r welcome
John the Baptist was baptizing in obedience to God. God had commanded John to perform what's referred to as a "baptism of repentance," to prepare the way for the coming Messiah. In effect, John was "helping" God, the Jews, and Christ as well.

The ecumenical calender is based upon biblical events and as such is not restricted to the solar calendar. As such the seasons differ in length and rarely line up with the popular celebrating of a season. For this reason to help people of the Christian faith better track the season of advent up to Christmas the calendar is designed to act as a daily reminder that we are approaching the time when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ!http://jesuswept.blog.ca
The teachings of Jesus ARE Christ's message because he was Jesus Christ. Christ and Jesus are the same person.
