As with any organism there may be small differences between individuals. In any situation some individuals will be more likely to survive, and these will be the ones who reproduce and the population gradually becomes more like those individuals.

Over time amoebas have changed quite a bit. An amoeba often has two nuclei because of its size. Many protist cells like it are not the same size as amoebas are. They have two nuclei to regulate the cell activity inside the cell. The nuclei inside of it are actually two different types. There is the equilibrium nucleus which is the biggest of the two an the mitosis which contains no nucleolus
