This one is rather obvious. Malnutrition which anorexia causes (not eating enough) will lower the sperm count in a man. If the sperm count gets too low it will be difficult or impossible for him to get a woman pregnant. Women anorexics also become less fertile. Starvation will eventually cause a woman to stop menstruating and she will not be able to conceive or get pregnant. Anorexia causes many other problems as well, some of which can be permanent depending how emaciated a person get.
Many anorexics will often lose fertility. A lack of nutrients deprives the body of essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients, including those important to fertility and blood health, like iron, calcium, and folic acid. In order to conserve energy and calories, the female body will stop menstruating. If this happens for too long, it can cause fertility problems, as well as significant difficulty trying to conceive since a fertile egg is not often released. If a woman with anorexia does become pregnant, there is serious risk of miscarriage in the first trimester due to malnutrition. If the pregnancy continues, e fetus is at risk of low birth weight and nutrient deficiencies.
In a person with anorexia, there is often a loss (either temporary or complete) of the menstrual cycle. The body, not recieving enough nutrients, does not have the ability to waste energy or nutrients in blood through a menstrual cycle, so it stops. Anoerxia can also cause changes in hormonal levels, also resulting in irregularities.
