Essentially, botany greatly affects the general population as everyone eats - all food (where directly or indirectly) is related to plants. Knowning what to plant where is essential to economic success and minimising waste and hunger.

Plants are also used as fuels, building materials and as a source material for paper and many other products. Your whole immediate environment is somehow affected by plants and the products made from them.
