The bottle is sealed under pressure, keeping the CO2 gas dissolved in the liquid. Once the interior of the bottle is exposed to an atmosphere less than that in the bottle, the CO2 desolubilizes and escapes. You typically observe this in the fizziness of the carbonated beverage. If, however, you opened the bottle inside a container that was at the same pressure as the contents of the bottle, there would be no fizziness. If you opened the container inside another container at a higher pressure, some of the gas outside the bottle would be dissolved into the liquid in the bottle. If you had a very tall slender bottle containing a typically carbonated liquid, you would also notice that the CO2 would dissolve from the top more than that at the bottom, due to the weight of the liquid sitting over the liquid at the bottom.

Keep it sealed in a glass bottle.

Plastic bottles leak out CO2 slowly as the molecules of Carbon dioxide are slightly smaller than the gaps between plastic molecules.

Same reason why balloons filled by human breath go limp after a few days.

Also ~ I have bought special toppers that pump the air from 2-liter bottles, they keep soda carbonated much longer than usual. That is easier than pouring into another bottle.

From what I have heard, it is that when they close the can, by heat, air gets trpped inside and forms bubbles. Then, when you open it, think before you open that it has been shook around quite a lot, forming more bubbles. So when you open it, all the bubbles go to the top because they had been trapped down at the bottom andwhen they reach the top, they all start to pop and that makes the soda "fizz".

No... By freezing carbonation wont loose because the soloubility of gases like co2 will increase with decrease in temp and increase in pressure. That why soft drinks will be kept in fridges..

2 reasons: the alcohol is uncarbonated Which lowers the relative amount of bubbles. Alcohol lowers the gravity of a drink reducing head and carbonation. Think champagne versus beer

When you open a bottle of carbonated cola you see bubbles of gas bursting from the surface. What can you infer about the amount of gas dissolved in the solution before you opened the bottle?

If gas comes out of solution when a bottle is opened, then there must have been a greater amount of dissolved gas in the substance while it was under pressure prior to opening the bottle.
