Clostridium defficile is generally found in the intestines. Antibiotics can cause the balance of bacteria in your intestines to weaken and allow Clostrium to grow unchecked. Effects can range from common diarrhea to serious life threatening inflammation in the colon. Patients in long stays in hospitals or long terms care facilities are most at risk.
