Humans perceive different wave lengths of light as different colors. Objects are struck by all the colors.
If all the colors are reflected off the object, it is perceived as a white object.
If all the light gets absorbed by the object and none is reflected, Then the object is perceived as black.
If the object is blue, only the blue light will be reflected and all other wave lengths will be absorbed by the object. The eye would then perceive the object as blue.
That is why black clothing can sometimes be hot to wear.
