Critical thinking is a special way of digesting what you read in a complex, insightful way. It teaches you to, among other things, "read between the lines." Thus critical thinking can help you read in a way that gets behind what the author is really trying to say, besides what is obviously happening in the text.
That's a good question, but also incredibly vague. You could either answer it equally vaguely: It will influence all of those things positively, or you could go on for pages. Briefly... hopefully critical thinking is already influencing each of us and the way that we read, write, and process information. As we learn more about critical thinking and become better at critical thinking, perhaps we question things that we hear, or read, or see more. We don't take news articles at face value until we do our own research. We don't accept marketing material and believe it blindly. We don't just repeat things that we've heard without thinking critically and comparing sources.
ad “Dead Men's Path” by Chinua Achebe (1930) and respond to the following in 350-400 words. As you read “Dead Men’s Path,” think about how it is an example of the failure to think critically through the nuances of a situation, and ask yourself how (in what specific ways) does Michael Obi fail to think critically—and why? Additionally, how does the story, in terms of its thematic concerns, relate to critical thinking, as you understand the term at this point?
New ways of thinking.
false
In many ways, no. Everyone thinks, without thinking. So when your reading and your brain sends a wave to the paper, and back, it takes brain power....aka thoughts
Yes, it is. Reading helps to develop your vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, grammar and imagination. It also gives you insights into other cultures and ways of thinking.
Critical thinking isn't so much an influence as it is a necessary prerequisite. If you write without thinking, your work will be random and incoherent; just whatever popped into your head. It won't make sense to anyone, even to you when you read it later. The only way to write convincingly and with force is to plan out what you will say. Some people plan with an outline, others by writing a rough draft then revising, still others (I envy them) by working things out in their heads, but every good writer thinks carefully about his work.
Decolonizing the mind refers to the process of challenging and unlearning the colonial mindset and Eurocentric ways of thinking that have been imposed by colonial powers. It involves critically examining and disrupting structures that perpetuate colonial ideologies and reclaiming indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing.
Comprehensive thinking means that you are analyzing ideas in complex ways. By thinking critically about a notion, you can start to develop questions which leads to discovering more knowledge on the topic.
Thinking through lots of ways to solve a puzzle
I am a woman and feminist literature opened my mind to viewing men, at first, as monsters, as dictators who had say over every aspect of my life. Then I viewed men as sexually dominant, their sexuality influencing every aspect of my life. Later, as I read more feminist lit. it had me thinking about ways to empower myself in society, bring my thoughts to others, and try to make a difference in the world around me.
Why not?
