I dont know ask someone cleverer than me. Maybe it effects it by moving it.

it actually causes the surrounding buildings to fall or damage and every thing else will usually fall to pieces and be gone basically. please feel free to correct me in any way. oh and also the ground might crack too.

Earthquakes can up root trees, cause fires and create trenches in the earth. It can be a real issue. plus they can cause tsunamis in the ocean, causing the giant wave to wash over the shore killing everything.

Earthquakes affect the land because the plates of the land separate forming fault lines like the San Andreas fault in California. Faults however don't always happen, the earthquake can also cause a tsunami through the shaking of the water and can hit the land destroying buildings and cities. the same destruction can happen with an earthquake alone.
