Salt causes a person's body to store extra water. This stored water can put a strain on some of the body's organs such as the brain, kidneys, and heart. It can also put a strain on the arteries.

Table salt can affect the heart because of the following reason.

There is a extra strain of the kidneys because they have to get rid of all the extra salt. Hence the kidneys weaken. This excess salt not able to be removed remains in the bloodstream, sticks to the artery walls, and then it leads to thickening and hardening of the arteries. Calcium depositions may harden the arteries further. Then the platelets and other blood cells clump together and form a clot. The clot can block a coronary artery, leading to heart attack and severe angina, or even a brain artery, leading to a stroke.

So salt tends to not be soluble in water and clogs the arteries by it excessive use, thus even increasing the risk of coronary Heart disease if coronary arteries are involved.

we normally mean NaCl as salt or table salt and doctors forbid us to take this NaCl in more. there are several reasons behind this: 1. salt in blood tries to keep water in the blood vessels which will eventually lead to increased amount of blood as fluid in body. this excess blood is pumped by our heart. so we can surely understand that heart will have to work more than its normal work load in this case as heart is just like an organic water pump. 2. extra blood in arteries will make extra pressure in blood vessels which is called hyper tension. this hyper tension or excessive pressure will create harmful effects on our organs like brain, kidneys, lungs etc. so in the long run these organs will get damaged, ultimately death of that person. eg. brain stroke, kidney failure, pulmonary or lungs hypertension. 3. excessive pumping by heart will cause it to be muscular like body builders get muscle as they do exercise regularly. it is called Cardiomegaly. working like a bodybuilder be the heart for a long period of time will cause heart failure. there is another salt important sometimes which is KCl or potassium chloride. it is normally found in fruits, coconut water. sometimes doctors also restricts patients from taking fruits.

Too much salt can lead to high blood pressure. Eating some salt is essential to health, but eating too much can raise your blood pressure, which increases the risk of serious conditions such as stroke and heart disease.

The consumption of salt increases the need for adequate hydration. Within the circulatory system the impact of elevated sodium also impact on the nervous system which may cause muscle cramping or elevated heart rate.

Too much sodium in the body does what?

Too much sodium in the body would make the blood too osmolar. Blood cells would shrink and cease to function. More critically the excess sodium would upset the electrical balance of the heart cells. Since the pace of the heart beat is controlled by the potential electric difference in heart cells which is largely set by sodium, cardiac irregularity can be fatal.

What is one consequence of hyponatremia?

Hyponatremia is low sodium (Na) in the body. Sodium has an inverse relationship with potassium (K+). So when sodium goes down, potassium goes up. Besides causing dehydration, low sodium with high potassium can affect the heart muscle.

How does no sodium affect the human body?
