The undigested food, a large amount of water and dissolved salts go into the large intestine from small intestine. After then water and salts are absorbed into the blood, while undigested material is rejected as faeces.
Your small intestine absorb the amino acids, sugars, glycerol, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals from the food. The rest of the waste is pushed forward to large intestine. The contents are totally in liquid form at the terminal end of the small intestine. The large amount of fluid is absorbed back in the large intestine. The contents become more and more solid as the waste material proceeds down the path. So the large intestine acts as the storage organ for faeces. The faeces are eliminated periodically.
The large intestine, no digestion takes place there. The large intestine passes along the waste product and it exits through the anus.
large intestine store waste product which is not absorbed by the small intestine
The small intestine absorbs the nutrients and passes the waste to the large intestine. The large intestine absorbs the moisture and some vitamins. The end of the large intestine, the rectum, is what excretes the waste.
Large Intestine
The indigestible waste that leaves the large intestine is called feces.
The primary role of the large intestine is reabsorption of water from stool. It also absorbs some nutrients not taken up efficiently by the small intestine, and houses most of the symbiotic bacteria in your gut.
The large intestines job is to collect the unwanted food waste from the small intestine. After enough waste enters the large intestine, it is expelled from the body as feces.
