Gang violence affects a family negatively because opposing gang members often target family members because they know that hurts the other person most and kind of puts them in control because the other person doesn't want them to hurt their family again.

Violence in the household shapes lives, and the people who live them. It can turn children into bullies, and later abusers. It can force a child to live in fear, and to expect abuse. It can even teach them that abuse is a form of love; and destine them for a violent home of their own. It is something that needs to be addressed, because no family can be functional or happy in a household which endures regular violent episodes.

It will tear them apart, and create resentment among children. The family should be the group which can be trusted more than any other, and whom you can turn to for security. If the family is merely source of anger, on top of the rest of the world; then something is going to fall apart.

Gang violence affects your friends because if they live in the ghetto, there's drive-bys. Even if they aren't in the ghetto, when they go to school, they could have a friend who's in a gang. Eventually, that person will tell them to prove that they are friends and tell to do some missions. This is things like stealing and other things. After that and other missions, they initaite your friend into their gang. Other times, when your just walking on the road, they'll aproach you with their gang and start talking to you. Just say "I'm just passing through" and they'll let you go without any trouble, but other times they tell you to tell them wat's up next you pass through their turf. This means if you pass through, they'll ask you if your in or if your out. If they aproach you, do what you just read, don't run, otherwise they will shoot at you. Its hard to find a school without any gangs because they are very widespread. There are some schools were everyone is in a gang, but there are different gangs in that school. They most likely will pressure you or your friend to join there gang, again sometimes by telling you to do missions. Just say "no thanks, I'm cool". They may insult you, but just ignore it. Another thing, if they ask you or your friend just are you in or are you out directly, and at school, you can copy what my friend did and just don't answer and walk away.
