The green colour in plants is due to the chlorophyll in the cells, specifically in their chloroplasts. They perform photosynthesis to create glucose. This sugar is used to release energy, and is and used to make cellulose, which gives a plant its strength.
Plants are used in medicine but i don't think the chlorophyll has any effect on your body. The medical benefit is probably due to other compounds in the plant.
