They absorb high energy radiation.
In nuclear reactors, krypton can absorb enough neutrons to slow or stop the chain reaction.
One or more elements that strongly absorb neutrons, some are:cadmiumboronhafniumetc.
We see the use of control rods in a reactor to absorb neutrons. These rods are often made of boron.
Hafnium is used for many things in the scientific and nuclear world. The most common being this:1. The most important use of hafnium is in nuclear reactors for nuclear fission experiments. Hafnium can absorb neutrons easily and effectively. Hence, it is used in these experiments.2. It is used to create The Hafnium Bomb.3. It is used in gas and incandescent lamps.
Plants do absorb some radiation from contamination by airborne radiation or from the soil after contaminated dust has settled on it. Marijuana would be similar if grown outside, however I believe some is grown in indoor warm rooms, this should be clear. Not a good idea to smoke something that is contaminated though, probably more harmful than eating some food with similar contamination, as that would pass through you fairly quickly whilst if absorbed into the lungs it could stay there some time (I am not medically qualified, just giving my thoughts)
Troposphere does not absorb solar radiation. All other layers do not absorb.
Reactors are typically made from concrete, steel and lined with lead, the combination of these materials and built into a strong shape(bullet shaped or spherical shaped etc..) make up a nuclear reactor, these materials also absorb the radiation produced inside the nuclear reactor(lead absorbs gamma radiation and concrete absorbs neutron radiation).
Gases absorb radiation and some is absorbed in the atmosphere :)
No all molecules do not absorb infrared radiation. Some of them do.
White anything will REFLECT radiation, it will not transmit or absorb.
No
It doesn't absorb clever. It penetrates, and it can penetrate paper, smoke, a layer of skin and thin aluminium.
The one difference that nuclear chemistry has from the other branches is its study of the nucleus (core) of the atom. Nuclear chemistry will deal with how the nucleus can split, absorb and release energy as radiation, and decompose to form different elements.
Black absorbs radiation. A perfectly black body would absorb all the radiation that is incident upon it.
The ozone layer absorbs ultraviolet radiation. The ozone layer is in the stratosphere. So, the thermosphere does not absorb radiation.
The gas which absorb ultraviolet radiation is ozone. It absorbs the harmful Uv radiations from the sun.
