The medulla oblongata is responsible for regulating your rate of breathing, your heart rate, blood pressure, circulation and digestive system activity. It controls when these activities start, when they stop and how fast they go. This area is also where your sleep cycles are regulated.

The medulla is the large bump at the top of your brain stem. It connects the brain to the spinal cord. Its main function is to control your heartrate and breathing.

Answer

Medulla is the lowest part of the hindbrain. The hindbrain is also called the brainstem.. The hindbrain is the lowermost brain division; formed by enlargement of the spinal cord as it enters the cranial cavity. The medulla conducts impulses between the cord and the brain and contains important reflex centers for heart, blood vessel diameter, respiratory reflexes, vomiting, coughing and swallowing.

BEST ANSWER:

The Medulla Oblongata is the part of your brain that controls heart rate. It detects O2 (oxygen) and CO2 (corbon dioxide) levels in your bloodstream and sends impulses to the nervous system. Nerve fibres from the Medulla can either stimulate, or inhibit special muscle fibres in the heart to control the rate at which it pumps blood. If it detects abnormally high CO2 levels, the Medulla will send impluses to the heart to beat fatser, therefor increasing the oxygen in the bloodstream.

Medulla in your HairThe Medulla is also the center of your hair shaft. Some say if you have no medulla in your hair than it does not curl nearly as easily and you can not keep a perm. I myself have no medulla and my hair takes forever for it to curl. Two of my friend has a fractured medulla and her hair is super curly. Other than no medulla and a fractured medulla, there is a normal unbroken and a fragmented one.
