If a mutation occurs, if itbeneficial in the slightest, natural selection chooses it to become the more common gene, and thus evolution takes place. For example the black death wiped out one in three Europeans, now scientists are finding that some of those who survived had mutations on their immune system cells; they lacked common receptors, or otherwise had few. (DNA is like history, clearly they aren't meeting with black plague patients, the DNA in Caucasian Europeans acts as a historical map of past bottlenecks.) Because Europeans with this mutation were least likely to die of the black death they were the most likely to survive, which is why the catastrophe of the Bubonic Plague resulted in some 20% of Caucasian European descendants to lack these receptors on their immune system cells which in turn helps reduce the risk of immunity diseases such as aides.
If the mutation gives the organism a trait that is better that what might normally exist, that organism is more likely to survive, and thus reproduce. Eventually, once this happens over and over again, the whole population might get the trait, because it was better in their environment.
Mutation can serve up the raw variation that natural selection selects from, thus alleles are changed over time in populations of organisms; evolution.
Mutation can lead to genetic changes over time!
When a mutation occurs in the replication process, it changes certain features, like maybe better eyesight, and maybe bigger eyes, or bigger claws, and the meaning of evolution is when something changes into a better form.
Crossing-over
They Began to Adapt to the changes over a certain period of time
Evolution
This describes the process of evolution. When organisms evolve, they change over time in a way adaptive to their current environment.
By crossing over, hybridization, mutation and artificial gene transfer.
Without the heritability of individual traits what difference would it make if the individual was selected. An individual that has a germ line mutation, say, and this mutation could confer survivability and reproductive success on progeny thus passes this mutation to said offspring is selected. Then evolution, the change in allele frequency over time in a population of organisms, could take place. Heritability is all as individuals are selected but populations evolve.
That organisms vary, by sexual recombination or mutation. That some organisms will be better at survival and reproduction so that their alleles are passed on to progeny and these causes a change in frequency of these alleles over time which is the definition of evolution.
There is no gene flow - APEX
DNA holds all the genetic code for the development of an organism. Mutations in the genetic coding causes traits in the organism to change. A change in environment allows the organisms with beneficial mutations to live on and pass on their genes to later generations while organisms with harmful mutations die off. Over time the organisms will have adapted to their environment, this is the process called Natural Selection.
