This is one of the eternal questions, much like "What is the meaning of life?"
The problem is that there is no one answer. So many offenders who are seeking parole seem to believe that those who have gotten paroled somehow know the secret, that they have found the Holy Grail, discovered the Philosopher's Stone. But, the perspective of those who have been paroled is happy confusion more often than not.
Truth is, no one who has ever gotten paroled can tell you why. Not because they don't want to, but because they don't know.
It helps to "lay down." That is, play the game, do what is expected and follow the rules. Those who don't make waves, don't attract negative attention. Those who don't attract negative attention do not receive punitive actions. No negative marks on prison evaluations equates to "not a trouble maker" and "likely to be successful on supervised release."
Of course there are theories that focus on recidivism rates and the desire of prison authorities to keep censuses high for political reasons. Although recidivism rates for the least likely classes of offenders to repeat offenses tending to be those who are least likely paroled do nothing to support the premise, so some other phenomenon must be to blame.

∙ 13y agoYou do not generally get "parole" from jail. On occassion, a judge will sentence you to time served, that is the jail time you served while awaiting your trial. In some of these cases, you may be sentenced to an extended period of conditional release which would be parole if your crime was a felony. It could just as easily and more likely be that you will be sentenced to probation. Of the two, probation seems to be the tougher of the two to complete. I am not certain why.

Certainly, however you may not be able to have contact with them while either of you are on parole. while on parole, you will likely require the permission of each of your parole officers. If both of you have the same PO, this becomes easier. Once you have been discharged from parole, no one can prevent you from having what friends you want, or having contact with them.
