How do you remove the cylinder from a navy colt?

It's not as hard as you may think. There is a wedge pin just ahead of the cylinder, held in place by a screw on the left side. Remove the screw, and tap out the wedge pin with a non marring hammer or wooden dowel from right to left. Some models have a spring within the wedge that will need to be depressed while driving out the wedge. Once the wedge is free, the barrel may be wiggled free or the two alignment pins on the frame, located at the front of the frame near the cylinder ram rod. Once free of the pins you can remove the barrel towards the front. Half cock the hammer to dis engage the bolt from the cylinder, then slide the cylinder off to the front. I have provided a link in the related links section that may be able to help.

Did Colt ever make a 7 shot 38 cal revolver?

The answer is YES! How do I know? It is laying on the desk in front of me. Serial#192178. "Address Sam'l Colt New York US America" imprinted on the top of the barrel. The cylinder has an engraving around it showing a stagecaoch hold-up. This 7-shot revolver was carried throughout the Civil War by my Great-Grandfather. All serial numbers match, including the wedge.

Cleaning ellipietta 44 cal?

First, check your spelling of the maker (F Lli Pietta). You should have an owner's manual, which you should be able to get through their website (SEE LINK AT BOTTOM OF PAGE). For black powder revolvers in general- black powder residue is cleaned with soap and water. Most ball and cap revolvers have a barrel held in place by a wedge. Remove the wedge, separate the barrel from the frame, and slide cylinder off the cylinder pin. Wash parts in HOT water (I use Dawn dish detergent, but others will work) Scrub parts with an old toothbrush, use a bore brush for the barrel, and the charge holes of the cylinder. Rinse in HOT clean water, shake water off parts, let air dry (they will be hot and dry quickly) Wipe with a light coat of oil, including interior of cylinder, and of barrel. Apply light coat of grease to cylinder pin, replace cylinder, barrel, and wedge.

How do you disassemble a 36 cal navy model?

Make sure the pistol is pointed in a safe direction and completely unloaded. First pull the hammer back to the half cock or first click position. The cylinder should move freely clockwise. Second, loosen the screw that keeps the wedge tight, and pull the wedge, which is underneath the screw, almost free of the frame. Third, release the handle from underneath the barrel, and let it swing down a bit so that you can see the ram that is used to seat the powder, patch and ball when you are loading, but make sure that you are between chambers so that when you bring the handle farther down, the ram will push against the cylinder rather than going into one of the chambers. As you apply pressure, the barrel will be pushed away from the frame as long as you have the wedge out far enough. If you aren't sure, take the wedge completely out. After the barrel is off, the cylinder will slide off of the cylinder pin. Use your nipple wrench to remove the nipples from the cylinder, and then you are ready to start normal cleaning. Reassembly is just the reverse.

Wedge is a simple machine?

The Wedge is a device that tapers to a thin edge, usually made of metal or wood, and used for splitting, lifting, or tightening, such as to secure a hammer head onto its handle. The wedge is considered one of the six simple machines. Wedges have been used since prehistoric times to split logs and rocks; for rocks, wooden wedges, caused to swell by wetting, have been used. In terms of its mechanical function, the screw may be thought of as a wedge wrapped around a cylinder.
