osmosis is the movement of a low salt solution in water to a high salt solution in water by diffusion. if animals did not have water proof coating or some way to protect the cells from absorbing to much water and causing the cells explode in water which has a lower salt solution then the content of the cell
When animal cells are placed in sugar solutions things may be rather different because animal cells do not have cell walls. In very dilute solutions, animal cells swell up and burst: they do not become turgid because there is no cell wall to support the cell membrane. In concentrated solutions, water is sucked out of the cell by osmosis and the cell shrinks. In either case there is a problem. So animal cells must always be bathed in a solution having the same osmotic strength as their cytoplasm. This is one of the reasons why we have kidneys. The exact amount of water and salt removed from our blood by our kidneys is under the control of a part of the brain called the hypothalamus. Osmosis is the diffusion of water through a membrane. Diffusion is when particles move from a higher concentration to a lower concentration without the use of any energy. So, in the movie, Osmosis Jones is really a white blood cell (a cell that combats "evil" disease or illness. The the movie would have been titled fine as Osmosis Jones if Osmosis simple diffused from one place to another inside the body. However, that would have been really boring and the studios would have lost their shirts!
In theory, animals should be safe to roam within the confines of a sanctuary. They would be safer than in nature since sanctuaries are usually patrolled by rangers. However, there is always a chance that poachers could sneak on to kill animals.

Considering that cellular respiration takes place in humans, which are a "higher" form of animals, you can assume that cellular respiration can also take place in all other animals. Without cellular respiration, the animals would have no form of cellular energy, ATP, and would start to die off.

The Vatican has no place for pets. It is crowded with tourists and has no place for animals to do what animals do. They would leave their droppings everywhere for people to step into.
