To begin a breath, your diaphragm contracts. This causes a reduced pressure area in your chest. Since the outside atmospheric pressure is now higher than that in your chest, it causes the air to be sucked down the trachea and into your lungs.

At the end of a breath, your diaphragm relaxes, which allows the natural recoil of your lungs to contract them and thus expells the air.

Air, itself, doesn't travel through the circulatory system. Oxygen is extracted by the alveoli (small air sacs in the lungs)and carried on the hemoglobin molecule of the red blood cell, and then transported to cells where it is used in oxidative metabolic processes.

Well when the deoxygenated blood enters the Right Ventricle it goes through the Pulmonary Artery. From there it goes to the lungs, there it picks up oxygen with the help of hemoglobin. Once it has taken oxygen from the lungs it returns to the heart and continues circulation.

Air does not pass through the blood stream. Air goes into your lungs and oxygen then passes through the blood, red blood cells carrys oxygen to wherever it is needed
