Orangutans are one of many species threatened by the booming palm oil industries in Indonesia and Malaysia--where tropical rain forests are being cleared at an alarming rate in order to provide land for plantations that grow oil palm. An estimated 5,000 orangutans die every year after losing their forest homes and food sources, and many are shot or tortured when they are found wandering onto plantations

∙ 13y agoPalm Oil is taken from the Oil Palm tree which grows in the tropical rainforests of Malaysia. To get palm oil, the trees of the rainforest are burnt down, taking the animals of the tropical rainforest with them. Resulting in the almost extinction of many of the animals living in the rainforest.

Due to palm oil plantations, the orangutans are forced to the ground for food and end up being used as food etc. Also, baby orangutans are being orphaned because their parents go missing as they have been looking for food.

Palm oil is in many foods, drinks and even in cosmetics like lipstick. the reason Orangutans are being killed is becasue the palm oil company's see the Orangutans who are living on their land so they kill them. but the only reason why the orangutans are on their land is because of the deforestation to make room for the palms.

Its all because of the palm oil plantation, people create them making sure that they are dying out. The male orangutans don't have anywhere to sleep because the palm trees are the only trees that can support their weight of 118kg, this means there are less male orangutans around because either they sleep on the ground and are killed or they find another tree and it breaks and they fall out and die. Poachers also try to kill them , they also drag baby orangutans away from their mothers (which is tight and cruel). They also slaughter the baby orangutan's mothers, they cut down the trees which is taking away their habitat :( we should do something about it and help
