You're looking for a lap siding mount:I was able to locate a large variety of mounting plates for lap siding at http://www.antalproducts.com/http://www.sidingsaver.ca/ features a siding bracket that allows you to mount many different things to siding. They don't sell products in the US, but you can order online and they'll ship here.
I believe the Dutch Lap is the one with the beveled edge at the top of the board, which creates shadow lines. The board lays flat on the vertical. Lap siding has flat boards overlapping each other on an angle. Beaded lap has a rounded, beaded edging detail at the bottom of the board. The boards lay on a slight angle overlapping each other.
lengh times width, plus 10% for waste. If you're talking about lap siding.

Depending on location, vinyl siding replacement generally costs $2.50-$3.00 per square foot including material for standard D4-D5 straight-lap siding.
Overall there is little advantage between the two. I would go with the product that looks best for your house. If you use a high quality (40 mill or higher) vinyl siding either will look nice if installed properly. Dutch lap fits tighter at the overlaps due to the extra bend. Often times, traditional lap siding, if "stretched", will cup at the seams, Dutch lap in general is not a prone to this problem as bad. Don't focus this minor problem, just make sure you get a good product and hire a reputable installer and you house will look like new again.
$200-$250 per square in chicagoland. Square = 100 square feet
I had a 4x8 panel on my house for 30 years. Great product. I added an addition and tried to find the siding with no luck. Used T-111, 8in on center groove to match my old panel. hard to notice the difference.
