Rum taken neat can hit you pretty fast! It hits your head within 15-20 mins and u're going to feel like someone's just given a you a heavy dose of sedative. when taken with Soft-drinks the effect sets in after a while. Personally, I feel very drowsy and talkative but it's different for different people. It is advisable to drink it in an empty stomach and have food with high fat content soon after consumption as that would help absorb the alcohol and reduce the drowsiness. Like any other alcohol, it certainly is harmful when taken regularly for a long period.
