The influenza starts out as an upper respiratory system disease. It involves the eyes, nose, sinuses, throat, trachea, bronchial tubes, and later the lungs. Because the virus is implanting itself on or in the cells of our nasal passages and other respiratory tissue and mucous tissues, making them stop doing what they usually would do for us and begin doing what the virus wants instead (duplicate itself), the cells get damaged and don't function correctly for us anymore. Our bodies and immune systems recognize that there is something foreign there attacking our mucous tissue, so it creates more mucous and tries to flush it out. That gives a runny nose. As the whole upper respiratory tract gets swollen and inflamed, it causes a narrowing of the passages and sinuses which can trap the mucous and make it clog the airways and feel stuffy.
Any of the cold or general flu symptoms can be a symptom of swine flu. It can be as mild as stuffy nose or serious enough to put you in bed for weeks. Generally speaking though, the swine flu is like any other flu, if not a little milder, you get a fever, a cough and a stuffy/runny nose and body aches and it comes on pretty quick. Sinus pain can follow a bout with a stuffy or runny nose. As always, if in doubt, check with your doctor.
