Satellite tv is prodcasted using communications satelites instead of cable wires enabling you to bounce your signal off various satellites offering a wider range of channels/services.
Cable Television has a specific number of stations dependent on what kind of package you have� Satellite tv has no limit of stations and can have new channels added daily based on what hits the market.
The downside is you do not get local channels. It is cheaper - initially because you would have to local channels but once you add those channels then it amounts to about the same as cable.
