The keeping of Christmas was not about just the twelve days of the Christmas period it was about keeping the ethos of Christmas all year. Many at Christmas seek peoples attitudes change i.e. Bob Crachitt when his wife refuses to toast Scrooge his plea is "But My Dear, its Christmas". Even presently people try to be more charitable and welcoming at this time of year more than any other. Dickens was using this as a way to say why can't we be like that every day not just at Christmas. he uses Scrooges oath to highlight this simple yet important fact. Scrooge oath therefore is to do this and in doing so changes the lives of people around him for the better

The ghost did not show Scrooge his own Christmas present because Scrooge had the ability to change his future actions and shape his own destiny. By witnessing the consequences of his current behavior, Scrooge was given the chance to amend his ways and create a better future for himself.
In Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," Scrooge's nephew Fred gives him a present of holiday cheer and an invitation to Christmas dinner. Scrooge also receives a more symbolic "present" of redemption and a chance to change his ways through the visits of the three ghosts.
