ohhh pretty tricky question ! You my friend must read Marx ! Though some of his major predictions were not actually attained , he still remains one of the founders of the science "Sociology " . The three most influential sociologists were : Max Weber , Karl Marx and the functionalist Emile Durkheim . Never mind that .Back to Marx .You see ,this man lived most of his life in England in the time of the industrial revolution .He closely observed patterns not only in England ,but in many other European countries as well .He predicted that the workers ( ie : the proletariat ) would one day gain CLASS CONSCIOUSNESS and let go of their previous blindness .This would lead to a massive revolution where the workers would realize where their true common interests lie .The extremely rich and powerful class ,the bourgeoisie ,shall be destroyed and wiped out in the process .Summary : For Marx class is all important .It makes us who we are and determines how we live , interact and survive .I mean still you don't need to contemplate on Marx's complex theory ( which is not only this btw ) to understand how class clash works .Look around you and I bet you'll be able to see behind the veil society places on everything .( PS : if you are interested in Sociology I strongly recommend you to read William Kornblum's " Sociology in A Changing World ." Good luck ! Hope my answer helped you out some way :D
