For the future at this time in life August 7 2010 Who knows what the future will be for the social security system. So you should make your plans about the social security benefits for your retirement time in life very carefully.

Because when you are no longer working and have any other sources of income the monthly social security check will not be large enough for you to continue your life style that you would like to keep on having at that time.

At this time in the life of a lot of taxpayers the SSB amounts that they are receiving is the only source of income that they have available to them

I can see no reason why joining a gym requires your Social Security Number. You will probably be paying your annual membership either in cash, credit card or by cheque.

How soon before your 62nd birthday do you apply for social security benefits?

You can't apply until 30 days after your 62nd, 66th or 70th birthdays if you wait until those ages to retire. Or you can apply anytime in between those birthdates if you choose. For example you could file for retirement in August of your 63rd year if you decided to retire then. WRONG You can apply within 4 months of when you are eligible for your first payment. Call 1-800-772-1213 or visit www.socialsecurity.gov for answers. Take information from anywhere else at your own risk!

Does fica tax apply to pre-FIT or post-FIT wages?

The FICA tax amount is withheld from your gross qualified earnings or you pay them your self if you are a self employed taxpayer. FICA stands for "Federal Insurance Contributions Act." It's the tax withheld from your salary or self-employment income that funds the Social Security and Medicare programs. The (OASDI) Old Age Survivor and Disability Insurance (FICA) (social security and Medicare taxes) all mean the same tax for social security benefits (SSB or SSDI). All mean the same thing.

Does your social security payment increase if you keep working?

Probably not - for 2 main reasons: 1) The amount made, over rather small limits, reduces the amount you receive $1 for every $2 made. 2) Your benefit was pretty much determined on your best earnings periods over your lifetime. Probably you would make less now than you used to and no better beenfit would be derived.
