Good soil effects because it is what controls the whole habitat if the soil is poor there are hardly any plants for some animals to eat. The richer the soil is the better vitamins the plant gives of and that energy goes to the animal or human that eats it.

Earthworms, insects and other microbes aerate the soil as well as actually making it as a result of their eating foliage & excreting. Plants are reliant on many different animals for pollen transfer and seed distribution - plants then hold soil and break up bedrock with their roots. Larger herbivores also add humus and fertilizer to localities with their droppings and dead bodies. If a small quantity of soil is baked/sterilized in an oven then re-watered, plants don't thrive in it afterwards & many seeds won't even germinate. Good soil is 'alive' with life - fungi, animal and plant.
