The download for client snapshots is an updated minecraft.jar file. This replaces the minecraft.jar file in your /bin sub-directory in the directory Minecraft is installed in. To install the snapshot, simply paste in the new minecraft.jar and overwrite the old one.
(If you have a windows computer)
-Download the client. (It can be found in Mojang's site)
-Open "run" on your computer and type
-You'll see a folder named .minecraft
-Open it, and then open the bin folder.
-You will see minecraft.jar file.
-Delete it and replace it with the minecraft.jar that you have downloaded. (be sure that the new minecraft.jar is named minecraft [not minecraft(2) etc. ]
