Stress is a biological term which refers to the consequences of the failure of a human or animal body to respond appropriately to emotional or physical threats to the organism, whether actual or imagined.[1] It is "the autonomic response to environmental stimulus."[citation needed]

It includes a state of alarm and adrenaline production, short-term resistance as a coping mechanism, and exhaustion. It refers to the inability of a human or animal body to respond. Common stress symptoms include irritability, muscular tension, inability to concentrate and a variety of physical reactions, such as headaches and accelerated heart rate. which could lead to acute pain and potentially lower a life span. once the stress factor occurs the cell structure rearranges itself and in that process you damage your front brain cells which causes painful headaches, drowsiness, and chronic suffering.

People who worry a lot and don't deal with stress in a healthy way usually have higher blood pressure. They get headaches and stomach/digestive trouble. They are at higher risk for heart attack and stroke. People who are tense and uptight cannot perform as well as people who are relaxed, so these people don't do as good at work or school. They are more likely to lose their tempers and get into trouble, also. People who have "road rage" are people who never learned to handle stress in a mature manner, and they get into more wrecks than people who are relaxed. Tense and stressed people generally do more poorly in all areas than relaxed people. Here are some ways to handle stress in a healthy manner: * Breathe! It is physically impossible to be anxious when you are breathing deeply and rhythmically * Remind yourself of the important things. Think about what is a realistic reaction, and don't let yourself blow things out of proportion. The word "realistic" helps you keep things from getting out of hand - it's hard to believe that it is realistic to scream and shake your fist because somebody cut you off in traffic or broke in line at the grocery store. * Speak up! People who never tell others what is bothering them are people who have anxiety and worry. You can tell people how you feel without being confrontational. A simple message "I feel ___ when you do ___" is calm, hard to argue with (are they going to say you don't feel like that?), and gets rid of most of your stress immediately.
