Tensile stress.
Faulting is caused by stress in the rock layers, the stress can break and crack the rock causing a fault. There are two types of faults a normal fault and a reverse fault.
cracks == In addition to cracks: faulting, metamorphism to new rock types, earthquakes, tilting, and folding.
Stress won't lead to a MRSA infection.
Compressive stress which led to thrust faulting at a convergent boundary where subduction is occurring. Please see the related question for more information.
It often does if the stress is great enough.
faulting causes large blocks of the Earth's crust to drop down relative to other blocks
How they are different: Folded rock forms when tersion makes the lithosphere break into normal faults. How they are the same: They both refer to the stress in the Earth.
Reverse Faulting.
