Much like humans, plants use sugar as fuel for energy. Plants make their own nutrients through a process known as photosynthesis. They combine water, sunlight and carbon dioxide and produce sugars. The glucose and sucrose they create is stored in the leaves and stems of the plant and used to fuel the growth of flowers and roots that do not produce energy on their own. Adding water with dissolved sugar to the plants during watering can sometimes boost the growth of immature plants since they are unable to make as much of the fuel on their own.

I believe that sugar helps plant growth for when i watered my plants my husband thought it was my drink and played an April fools joke and my plants grew faster because of the sugar in the water!

- Sugars are used by all lifeforms [including plants] to create energy, and in this case energy for growth by aerobic [meaning with the use of oxygen] respiration ["breathing"]: oxygen + [a sugar, glucose] -> water, carbon dioxide [+energy].

What kind of sugar? If you pour sugar water on a plant, the sugar probably won't help. If it's glucose though, it will. Glucose is the simplest energetic molecule that the plant can store and use. Glucose is chemical energy so plants produce it to store energy from the sun through photosynthesis which is the source of energy for all life on earth. Plants make glucose from CO2, H2O and energy from the sun through a series of complicated processes. There are many intermediate molecules that get gradually bigger until the plant has glucose. The plant can then use the glucose for many other processes like turning into polysaccharides like starch, which is even more easily stored, or cellulose, which is what makes up the plants cell walls. Also the plant uses the glucose as an energy source to synthesize fats and proteins. I don't think that you can find glucose in stores though. O.o

The sugar or glucose that a plant makes through photosynthesis doesn't really produce anything, but it provides energy for cellular respiration. Cellular respiration in plants is when the energy (in the form of a simple sugar) is stored in ATP's for long term use. When the energy is used, it aids the growth of new cells or to repair damaged cells.

Sugar will help a seedling grow because it gives the seed the extra carbon it needs. However, if added to much,it will kill a full grown plant.

Because sugar is what plants make using photosynthesis. Sugar is just as effective as some plant growth formulas, because that's what they contain.

Do plants grow faster in koolaid or water?

water is wrong because I'm doing a science fair project right now that proves that koolaid makes the plant grow faster. plant cells use sunlight to make sugars

Is a plant sexual?

Sexual Plant Propagation needs seeds for it to grow and without seeds the plant will not grow.

Photosynthesis works how?

Photosynthesis can happen in plants because they have chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is the pigment that makes plants green. Chlorophyll captures the Sun's energy and uses it to make sugars out of carbon dioxide from the air and water. The sugars fuel a plant's roots, stems, and leaves so the plant can grow.

Why doesn't a plant grow faster if watered by milk and not water?

Water is needed as part of photosynthesis which makes the right type of food that the plant needs to grow. Milk has some water and other stuff in it that the plant doesn't need.

What part of the plant makes the plant grow?

Soil nutrients are important to photosynthesis because they?

They're not - photosynthesis consumes only water, air (CO2), and sunlight. The "soil nutrients" are needed by the plant to convert the sugars into the other molecules that the plant needs to grow - including the chloroplasts that do the photosynthesis.

Does greavity have any effect on plants?

Gravity affects the growth of plants whereby for a plant to grow vertically upright, it needs a strong structural base, and it also makes the roots to grow downwards and determines how tall a plant can get.
