It depends on what kind of holidays. China has many traditional holidays. Traditionally big holidays would last for a few days with many elaborate practices. For example for the new year's day: one need to clean their house, prepare dumpling, change 春联 (If you noticed, at entrance door usually there are 2 vertical lines of calligraphy works with the title on the top) and many other things... and of course, the fireworks. Lots of fire works around midnight. On new year's eve, starting around 6pm many already started and got climaxed around 1145PM. Very exciting.
