Also, keep in mind that the Church of Christ believes that the Lord's supper should be taken every Sunday as The Bible gives example to. Acts 20:7 KJV

"And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight."

Church of Christ also believes that instruments should be outside of the church.

  • Ephesians 5:19 KJV

Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;& Colossians 3:16 KJV

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Whether it is okay or not for isntruments to be inside the church is not clearly stated in the Bible. However, you will find that the Church of Christ will not fill in blanks where the Bible has blanks. It is simply better to be safe than sorry.

and also, that women should be silent to men in the church (basically, this means that when a male is present, he should lead prayer or the sermon. women may lead Sunday school classes for children or their own study groups with other women and/or children, but women do not pray or preach aloud in the church service)"Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law" (1 Corinthians 14:34).

1. The Baptists teach that faith alone will save a person. Meaning that faith saves a person prior to baptism and without righteous works.

James 2:17, Faith without works is dead.

James 2:18, Faith is shown by works

James 2:19, Devils also believe

James 2:22, Faith is made perfect by works

James 2:24, A man is not saved by faith only.

John 3:16, whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Ephesians 2:8-10, For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith

Mark 16:16, Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Luke 23:43, Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with Me in paradise".

Titus 3:5, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.

Church of Christ believes that works are required.

2. Baptists teach that baptism is not essential to salvation.

Church of Christ believes it is. Mark 16:15-16, Jesus said, we must believe and be baptized.(confirms Baptist point #1)

Acts 2:38, Baptism is for the remission of sins.(This verse does not directly refer to salvation)

Acts 22:16, Baptism saves.(This verse does not refer to salvation.)

Galatians 3:27, Paul says we must be baptized to get into Christ.(This in not baptism by water, but by the Holy Spirit)

I Peter 3:21, Peter says baptism saves us.

3. Baptists teach that once one is saved that that person cannot fall from grace so that he will be eternally lost in hell. Church of Christ do not.

Hebrews 10:26, Willful sins cause us to fall.

Galatians 5:4, Bible teaches that it possible to fall from grace.

I Corinthians 9:27, Paul taught that there is a danger of falling away.

4. Baptists teach that there is no salvation in a name. Church of Christ believes there is.

Acts 4:12, "And in none other is there salvation: for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved."

5. Baptists teach that they are not required to take communion (Lord's Supper) every Lord's Day. Church of Christ does.

Acts 20:7, "And upon the first day of the week, when we were gather together to break bread (Lord's Supper). The purpose of their coming together was to break bread, an expression referring to the Lord's Supper.

6. Baptists teach that they have the right to vote members into the church. Church of Christ depends more on elders.

Acts 2:47, When those people obeyed the gospel on the day of Pentecost, "And the Lord added to them day by day those that were saved.

7. Baptists teach that instrumental music is acceptable in the public worship.Church of Christ does not.

Colossians 3:16 and Ephesians 5:19, all suggest that music is by singing and making melody in the heart. No reference to use of instrumental music. In fact, instruments were not introduced into Christian worship until about 1,000 years after the church was established on the Day of Pentecost.

8. The Southern Baptist Association is a rule making body for their churches, adopting in many instances policies and doctrines to be observed. I believe however that such may not always be binding on the local churches.

Bible: Each Biblical congregation (church) is autonomous and no synod, conference, association or higher body can bind doctrine or practices on the local congregation. All references to churches in the New Testament are to each congregation and not to any higher body of rule making groups. There are no references in the New Testament of bodies or groups having supervision or authority over local congregations. 9. Baptists believe they are going to heaven. Church of Christ does not believe they are.

The primary difference is not what the church of Christ teaches versus what the Baptist churches teach is in the method and style of worship and the interpretation of the scriptures. There are other differences, but these listed are a few.

These are some of the significant differences between what the two churches TEACH.

If one believes that God expects us to follow the Bible to the best of our abilities, then these differences are minor.

Anyone who believes that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, believing that Christ was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified and rose again on the third day, paying for our sins with HIS blood, accepts Him as Savior and FOLLOWS Him is a Christian. The Christian religion is further broken into different denominations: Catholicism, Methodism, the Baptists, Lutherans, etc. Though some denominations include the word "Christian" in their name, "Christian" is not a denomination in and of itself. Instead, Christianity refers to the entire body of believers, and a denomination is a smaller autonomous group within the body, defined by its governing body, hierarchy, or shared belief system. Because Baptists are not governed by a hierarchical system as are some denominations, Baptists are classified by their shared distinctive beliefs, such as local church autonomy, priesthood of the believer, and believers' baptism. Baptists, therefore, technically do not consider themselves as a denomination, by virtue of the autonomy of the local church.

The fact that COGIC believe that the Holy Ghost comes upon you and you CAN be given the ability to speak in tongues, a language to be believed that it's a heavenly spoken tone. The Baptist don't believe so, even though, according to Acts 2:4, Jesus undertook the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues. And COGIC people believe that women shouldn't wear pants and makeup. Baptists women wear makeup and pants. COGIC believes that it pants and makeup represent Jezebel..the Harlet..and earrings must be taken out if a woman sings in a choir. COGIC is very strict..but we follow exactly as the bible says. I'm COGIC as a matter of fact.

In the Church of Christ there must be a plurality of Elders/Pastors. Part of Salvation is Baptism, but is not part of believing or confessing sin, but an act of obedience to Christs teachings. The Bible is the only authority in the Church as it is the words of God.

In the Baptist Church there is generally only a Pastor which may have associate Pastors to lead different parts of the Church such as the youth group. Baptism is part of obedience to Christ, but not to be confused with being saved. Although the Bible is seen as the Word of God other man invented programs are allowed in teaching the Church.

Both Baptist and Church of Christ love God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit and or the Trinity.

The major difference is the view of baptism. A baptist church holds that once a person is saved or "born again" then they are to receive the ordinance of baptism. The Church of Christ believes that one is saved by the ordinance of baptism when it is accompanied with faith. For the Church of Christ baptism is regenerational. For the Baptist Church baptism is symbolic. Both reject infant baptism.

Perhaps the primary belief that sets Church of Christ/Christian churches apart from other mainstream protestant churches is their belief that water baptism is the act by which a person is "saved". Most other protestant churches believe that water baptism is an action taken after being saved, as a witness to others of your salvation. Church of Christ/Christian churches also practice the sacrament of communion every week, while Baptist and most other protestant churches do it on a less-frequent basis.

On the other hand, a belief that sets Baptists apart from the Church of Christ/Christian churches and most other mainstream protestant churches is their belief of "once saved, always saved", meaning that once a person accepts Christ as their savior, they cannot lose their salvation. Most other protestant churches believe that Christians can "backslide" and lose their salvation, while Baptists believe that a Christian who backslides is simply "out of fellowship" with God, but is still saved.

What is the difference between Pentecostal and Baptist hymns?

Well, it depends on the individual church. Some Baptist churches sing the same songs as most Pentecostal churches (except for songs that talk about Holy Spirit baptism--unless it's a Charismatic Baptist church). And, some non-Pentecostal churches don't sing songs about the blood of Christ. Other than that, in general, the songs are about the same.
