Regardin the Catholic Church's relationship with Jews + Muslims The official position of the Catholic Church is found in the Second Vatican Council's declarations. Quotation no.1: The Dogmatic Constitution on the Church (Dogmatic means that Catholics must believe this to be Catholics in good standing) "In the first place we must recall the people to whom the testament and the promises were given and from whom Christ was born according to the flesh; the Jews On account of their fathers this people remains most dear to God, for God does not repent of the gifts He makes nor of the calls He issues. But the plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator. In the first place amongst these there are the Muslims, who, professing to hold the faith of Abraham, along with us adore the one and merciful God, who on the last day will judge humanity" (paragraph 16) Quotation no.2: Declaration on Non-Christian Religions Regarding Muslims: "The Church regards with esteem also the Muslims. They adore the one God, living and subsisting in Himself; merciful and all- powerful, the Creator of heaven and earth, who has spoken to men; they take pains to submit wholeheartedly to even His inscrutable decrees, just as Abraham, with whom the faith of Islam takes pleasure in linking itself, submitted to God. Though they do not acknowledge Jesus as God, they revere Him as a prophet. They also honour Mary, His virgin Mother; at times they even call on her with devotion. In addition, they await the day of judgment when God will render their deserts to all those who have been raised up from the dead. Finally, they value the moral life and worship God especially through prayer, almsgiving and fasting. Since in the course of centuries not a few quarrels and hostilities have arisen between Christians and Muslims, this sacred synod urges all to forget the past and to work sincerelyfor mutual understanding and to preserve as well as to promote together for the benefit of all humanity social justice and moral welfare, as well as peace and freedom." (paragraph 3) Quotation no.3: Declaration on Non-Christian Religions Regarding Jews: "As the sacred synod searches into the mystery of the Church, it remembers the bond that spiritually ties the people of the New Covenant to Abraham's stock, the Jews. The Church, therefore, cannot forget that she received the revelation of the Old Testament through the (Jewish) people with whom God in His inexpressible mercy concluded the Ancient Covenant. Nor can she forget that she draws sustenance from the root of that well-cultivated olive tree onto which have been grafted the wild shoots - the Gentiles. Since the spiritual patrimony common to Christians and Jews is thus so great, this sacredsynod wants to foster and recommend that mutual understanding and respect which is the fruit, above all, of biblical and theological studies as well as of fraternal dialogues.Furthermore, in her rejection of every persecution against any man, the Church, mindful of the patrimony she shares with the Jews and moved not by political reasons but by the Gospel's spiritual love, decries hatred, persecutions, displays of anti-Semitism, directed against Jews at any time and by anyone. " (paragraph 4)---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What can bring Judaism Christianity and Islam together?

A:What can bring Judaism, Christianity and Islam together can already be found in China. Leaders of the two great Chinese religions, Buddhism and Taoism, teach what is believed, but each faith accepts that the other religion believes differently and does not claim that the other is wrong. This is the way forward if Judaism, Christianity and Islam are to be brought together. Followers of each religion must accept that what others believed can not be proven wrong, just as what they themselves believe can not be proven true. This brings about the humility that all the great religions preach, but seldom achieve.
