Most TV channels are funded from advertising or sponsorship. A typical 30-second advert could cost the advertiser around £50,000 - multiply that by the number of adverts on the channel through the day, and you soon realise how much money TV channels actually get ! Additionally, individual programs (especially at peak viewing times) may be sponsored by companies, which brings in extra income.
