The social contract is a voluntary agreement between individuals to form a government, which in turn is obliged to act within the confines of the agreement. Basically, the people surrender the freedom that they would have in the state of nature in exchange for the protection a sovereign leader can provide. The basic principle of contract theory was embodied in the U.S. Constitution because the Framers actively sought to limit the power of leaders with a series of structural rules so that government officials would not overstep upon the basic rights of the people.
The Social Contract states that without government, man will ever be at war, so to avoid that fate, man gives up their rights to a government that conduct order (however, later with john Locke, its mentioned that we keep our natural rights).
With this in mind, government is created because of the people's consent, not divine right, meaning that instead of monarchy there is democracy. This is where the US Constitution is influenced. There is a set of checks and balances to protect the people's natural rights. Plus, it sets up a democracy.
