The availability of consumer credit does not help launch new products, rather, consumer credit may help push new products across the adoption curve faster.

Many consumer products are expensive to develop. New wireless phones, flat screen televisions, Blu-ray Players, etc. are prohibitively expensive at launch and will not get cheaper until further along the adoption curve (largely due to economies of scale in production and learning curve effects).

Without consumer credit, few of these products would have made it to reasonable price points as (1) most people don't carry that much money with them and (2) people want the safety provided by credit transactions in the event something goes horribly wrong.

For bigger-ticket items, like new cars, there would be no market without consumer credit helping to cover the price tag (no matter how low after being appropriately negotiated). In this case, financing is less involved in launching, rather, financing helps the automakers get to line productivity faster.
