The epiglottis, a small flap in the throat, works by using nerves to sense when food is being swallowed. As food is on its way down, the epiglottis seals the opening of the trachea so that you don't accidentally swallow food into your lungs.
epiglottis closed up to protect food from entering the lungs
flap of cartilage that close when u swallow to prevent food from going down your trachea (windpipe)
it would it diifcult to breathe cause the bacteria is building up in the respiratory tract
It prevents food and liquid from entering the trachea and only allows air to go there
The epiglottis is very important. It covers the larynx, so food and liquid does not enter the windpipe or the lungs.
It prevents volentary entry into the lungs unless it is healthy air!
Flip Flap.

how does the respiratory system work
how does the respiratory system work
The Respiratory system is very closely linked with the circulatory system.
respiratory system
no
If the respiratory system is not working, nothing is working.
Respiratory system of all lizards is alike .
All body systems work together and are interdependent. For example, the circulatory system and the respiratory system are interdependent, because without oxygen, your heart is unable to pump blood, and without blood, your respiratory system cannot transfer oxygen. The nervous system and the immune system are interdependent because the brain signals when the immune system should activate, and the nervous system would eventually die off from infection or a virus without the immune system to protect it.
The respiratory system
The circulatory and respiratory systems work together to get oxygen to cells. Oxygen transfers from the respiratory to the circulatory system at the capillaries surrounding the alveoli.
