Euphoniums produce sound like all brass instruments do. When a Euphonium player buzzes his/her lips and pushes air into the horn through a mouthpiece, it makes the air start vibrating against the tubes of the horn. The sound is produced through these vibrations, and so the smaller the vibrations the higher the pitch. This is also why a Euphonium or any brass player can not produce sound by simply blowing into the instrument; he/she has to make the air vibrate as well.

The baritone, euphonium, and Trombone virtually sound the same. Trombone can just hit a few higher notes than euphonium or baritone, and euphonium and baritone can hit a few lower notes than trombone, but in the mid-ranges they sound exactly the same.

The euphonium can have a darker sound and a more rounded sound than a trombone because of the larger bell size.

A trombone sounds like a Trumpet playing low notes. However, a trombone has a slide instead of valves like a trumpet, so it can start on a low note and slide all the way up to a high one (and vice versa).

The best way to find out is to listen to a trombone, in life or on a CD.

The euphonium is a brass instrument so it produces sound by the vibration of air caused by the player's lips in the mouthpiece. When different valves are pushed down the air travels through various lengths of tubing which causes the pitch to change. A player can also adjust the pitch the instrument produces by changing his/her embouchure in the mouthpiece.
